YEAH, you just stumbled upon yet another dreamer!

When I was small (not as per height, coz that way I won’t be able to call myself big at all) I mean when I was somewhere in 5th grade, I dreamt of becoming a mathematician and that too a renowned one, for whom solving problems would be nothing but a cakewalk!  Okay let me tell you a small secret here, I suck at this subject like anything, but then, a dream is a dream!

After a year or two, I found myself addicted to the space and decided to become an Astronomer right away. My sole focus then was getting into NASA, some way or the other. I used to surf all similar internet sites, watch space news, read innumerous papers and magazines and gather as much information as possible. Even dared to ask for a branded telescope as my next birthday gift, embarrassingly, got slapped for the same. My second not-so-successful-dream-story.

Moving on,
I am in Tenth grade, things are no more casual now and it’s high time I make up my mind for ‘What next’. And So I did. I am going to be a Dermatologist. Yes. This one. After all, I love my skin; wanna make it better, and who knows I end up possessing the best skin in the world by learning the same. So dramatic, I know. Bah, yet again, this third dream shattered when I was exposed to the harsh reality of taking med and studying like an idiot in order to be one. Probably, was too lazy to do that.

The following things crossed my mind too:
A Singer, but I almost scared myself to death with my first pathetic attempt!
A Chef, but even the cow refused to taste that delicious maggi made by me!
A musician, but banged the guitar so bad that the strings broke loose on the first go itself!
Phew, they were some of the stories of my triumphs! ;)

Finally ended up with Non-medical. Henceforth, took engineering as a career, studied Electronics for four years. Not able to understand even the basics properly till date, but never mind!

Know what, while all this time of this and that, one thing remain untouched, my love for Literature and Writing. It has that element which is more than enough to make me happy, soothing me, it’s something I can hold onto and most importantly, it gives me the power to dream! Again and again!

As someone has rightly quoted , "Dreams are the touchstones of our character"

Have a good one, mates!

  3. So many dreams! :] That's okay though, girl. I always believe that as long as you are capable of dreaming, then you can never lose.

  9. No one has one dream..now a days...there is no fun in wanting to be one thing..and not others...All I want is everything..(as the posters below my office says..)..and all I want to be is everyone..(filmmaker, sportsperson, writer, traveler and sometimes no one...). At the moment, I am happy being just me..and being happy..is all that matters to everyone..

I hope..you get to fulfill some or all of your dreams...Hang on to them..I say ;)

  10. Dreamer? Me too! *hi-5*
I wanted to be an astronaut since 4th grade till 8th. Then realized maths and science is not for me :p 8th me I started getting praise for my essays and all. Then I wanted to be a journalist. Now in 11th, I'm doing arts. Agge want to do-as of now- law, psychology or journalism :)

  11. I'll be brutally honest and probably make anyone who reads this comment detest me. Right from the start, I've always wanted to be independent, and the one thing I've kept asking myself is 'What would make me happy?' the answer would include travelling to offbeat places, reading and bread with Nutella :P Now, since I hail from a middle class family, it definitely isn't possible for my parents to get me whatever and whenever I ask for it :D So its clear.Money.I'd like to make lots and lots of money (as long as its earned in a perfectly legal manner :P)so that I can buy all the books and train sets I want, and travel to Machu Pichhu one day :) Oh, and adopting a kid also features on my to-do list. There you go, I'm as cold hearted and selfish as they come :P Go on, you're free to hate me :D :D

  12. pretty much the same here.. shattering dreams got me into instrumentation engineering and now after 3 years.. I'm again up with the same question .. what's next ??

  13. Why are almost all dreamers commenting on this post into engineering :P It isn't some back up plan folks, Its one hell of a job, mine was a roller-coaster ;) I did a decent job there :)

I think I remember your astronaut dream rish :D not the birthday present telescope thing :D

I don't dream now, I'm depressed that way.
And I don't hate you sushmit, i like the way you think practically :)

  14. I wanted to be an astronomer too!
    Never a mathematician :D Can't stand maths!
I wanted to be a model, a dentist :D But then, science isn't for me :)
Indeed, writing is something which will never die :)
    Lovely post!
@ your comment: Glad you liked it. I've posted the next part :) Maybe, you could try playing the guitar for the background :D And hope you don't break the strings :P
    Keep writing!
    Take Care.

  15. well i guess its been a long journey but you lived all those dreams quite well.Maths genius ? I remember that. You did ADD happiness and smiles to the faces of all people around you running around with your sis mugri in your hand.In fact the animals in your locality were your celebrated disciples for years:) Astronomer ? Every godamn star out there has been in your company ever since. And you know about the moon which always claimed to be your secret lover in nights.Dermatologist - You always were. How do you Dadi looks so young even today ? Didn't you give her your magical sweetness therapy everyday ?:) Singer - Ummmm ask the lil butterfly who sat by your window every single day hoping she would be able to hear you croon her fav songs :) Chef ? this is hard but you try your best not to kill people and its praiseworthy ;) Guitarist ? It will never leave you.Strum it when you want.In nutshell you did cool right through living these dreams. And you are living one now - your writing and of being an angel of love :)

  16. Now I'll tell you a part of mine.

I wanted to be a scientist first, when I was small.
Then as I grew, I got this fascination of being an astronaut. At annual award distribution, the guest asked me what I wanted to be, I said 'Aeronaut' or Cosmonaut (I don't exactly remember what I said of these two).
Then, once when I was feeling down, I made new friends, in stars, and now I was more determined to be an astronaut. I even had a newsletter subscription from ESA and NASA, and my name is there in Mars rover's (R.I.P.) chip.
So, I became an ELectronics and communication engineer to achieve that goal.
I read that it needs a good initial career to get selected for NASA. Then there is Chandrayaan and ISRO.
I am still wishing, and willing :)

And when I had asked my parents for a telescope, they said, the pocket money that I get, which was 200/- per month, they said save it and I might get it.

Okay, I never needed a telescope from where I gazed, so I did not save. Now I will, because this place is new :)

    Cheers

  17. Awesome write up. It's good to dream, because only when you dream, you've got something to aim for, else you are as directionless as a mild wind.

Well my dream, nay my obsession when I was 5 was to become a Bus Driver (yes I was never really the high expectation type) turns out someone above wanted me to become an engineer.
